One reason is that it requires at least three years of careful and patient following to get them used to the presence of people. This process is called habituation. Dzanga Sangha Protected Areas in the Central African Republic is such a place.

ShareThisA three-year-old gorilla suffered an injury five days ago. I decided to accompany WWF´s African Great Ape Leader, David Greer, to look at its condition. After a bumpy, hour long drive through part of Central African Republic's Dzanga Sangha protected area, we arrived at the gorilla habituation camp. The BaAka trackers were expecting us.

Bulgaria's original ban ended the anomaly of sturgeon receiving protection only on the Romanian side of the Danube, following that country's 2006 announcement of a 10 year sturgeon fishing ban.
