Remote accommodation is always a challenge in difficult terrain. What follows
is an example of using two conventional shipping containers to create 90 square
meters of living space in dense rainforest adjoining World Heritage Rainforest.
The facility, on a nature refuge is used for rainforest research.

With partners, I own land in a remote part
of California. It has wild beauty, and some need of environmental restoration. Our
first years there were spent in basic infrastructure such as water and road. To
be there on a more regular basis, though, we needed to not spend hours setting up
and tearing down a tent each time we visited.

The shipping container homes are the most environmentally sound form of home construction on the market. They use a fraction of the traditional timber steel and cement and cement found in conventional homes. The structural strength of the shipping container allows the builder to create multi-story dwellings, offering a larger living space without expanding its footprint.

EcoBox

The EcoBox is a self-contained environmentally sustainable workshop built
from a standard shipping container. The workshop should comfortably accommodate
2 people for extended periods, and include all energy needs and waste disposal
without connections to outside systems, excepting sunshine and rain.

Cargo Container Construction

There are a lot of architects and builders that are beginning to wake up to the idea of using cargo containers for building. There are a lot of reasons that this idea’s time has come. I thought I would take a moment and outline why I like cargo container construction.
